The Doll Project is a personal pursuit of mine to honor my mother, Joan Tawes, for her years as a master doll maker and to highlight the excellence of her work. Some of the dolls pictured are from her collection, but most of them she created. She poured the porcelain slip into molds, fired, painted, and refired them. Then she assembled the pieces, inserted eyes, put on wigs, and created and sewed the costumes herself. Mom is 83 this year and no longer makes the dolls, but they continue to be enjoyed. Well done Mom!
